Physical Description | A slim, shortish woman, Alvy Vithu does everything she can to not appear Romulan. Her naturally black hair is dyed dark red, and cut in a bob that hides her pointed ears at most times; she has also used cosmetic treatments to make her eyebrows appear more human. Her personal style, when out of uniform, is somewhat alternative, akin to the Steampunk subculture of the late 20th and early 21st century, and she has an intricate tattoo design on her left arm of a rose bush, with three daggers between the stems. On her back, she has a large tattoo of a raven in flight. |
Personality
Personality Overview | While Alvy may be a Romulan-Vulcan hybrid, her personality is nothing like what one would assume either of those species would be like, as she was raised among humans on Earth. She is an intelligent and witty person with a dark sense of humour, and is very firm in her convictions about individual freedom and justice. She is also a passionate musician, having learned the violin as a child, and enjoys writing and reading poetry, as well as stories from 20th and 21st century Earth. Even though Rihannsu is her native language, Alvy is fluent in several other languages, both from Earth and the wider galaxy, and usually speaks English with a slight Scottish accent (which does not entirely manage to cover her Romulan accent). |
History
Personal History | Ael t’Vithu was born in space, daughter of a family on the run. Her father, Kuleb tr’Vithu - a Romulan - was a prominent reunificationist, believing in the union of the Romulan and Vulcan people, as they had historically been one and the same, and had thus been forced to flee the Romulan Star Empire. Her mother T’Sai, a Vulcan, meanwhile, had been shunned by her own people, as she not only held the same beliefs, but had also, in the words of the Vulcan government, “abandoned logic”. For the first three years of her life, Ael thus lived on a small starship with her family, transporting goods between Federation planets and independent systems. It was a simple life, but peaceful. One day, however, as they offloaded their cargo on an independent planet near the Romulan border, the Tal’Shiar finally caught up with Kuleb, and arrested him. Somehow, he had successfully hidden the fact that he had a family, and thus Ael and her mother escaped, soon after settling in Edinburgh, on Earth. A year later, T’Sai married a human, Drew McGill, and Ael gained a stepsister one year her junior, Drew’s daughter Patricia (nicknamed Peggy). Peggy struggled to pronounce her new sister’s Romulan name, and soon Ael became known as Alvy. When she was ten, her name was officially changed to Alvy Vithu. After graduating high school, Alvy first attended the Scottish Police College in Kincardine. However, she soon found that staying on earth and working as a police officer was not her calling, so she joined Starfleet Academy at the age of twenty-one. She graduated in the top five of her class and, following her Cadet cruise on board USS Poseidon, she was assigned to the Akira-Class U.S.S. Stauffenberg (NCC-72044), ultimately becoming its deputy Chief Security Officer. When her security chief was killed in the early days of the Dominion War, she took his position, albeit nominally only temporarily. Shortly before the end of the Dominion War, the Stauffenberg was destroyed in the Second Battle of Chin’toka. Lt. Vithu was one of only two dozen crew who managed to escape the ship, finally escaping to safety on board U.S.S. Scarlet. Upon her return to Starfleet HQ, she underwent trauma counseling, and was assigned to an administrative role at Starfleet Intelligence, co-ordinating with her Romulan counterparts. Once she felt her work at Starfleet Intelligence was complete, she requested a transfer back to duty on a ship, and she was assigned to U.S.S. Britannic to become her Chief Security Officer. |
