R&R

Lukas thanked the Vedek as he left the Bajoran temple. He had just sat through a service and then lit a candle in honour of his late sister, Greta, who was killed at the start of the Dominion War. Although he wasn't close to his sister or his brother, Karl. He still mourned the death as did his parents.
He stepped down from the temple and glanced in both directions to gain his bearings. The Cardassian built station always felt like a maze to him and he could never orientate himself very well.
"Captain Fredricks, didn't take you to be a believer in the prophets." Came a familiar voice from behind him. Lukas turned to see the station's commanding officer walking towards him.
"Colonel Kira, its been a while." He smiled as he offered his hand to the Bajoran.
She beamed back at him as she took his hand and shook it enthusiastically. "It has." She replied as she released Fredricks hand. "So, did you find enlightenment?" She asked, glancing towards the temple.
"Oh, no." Lukas shook his head. "Paying my respects to my sister. She converted to the Bajoran faith as it gave her peace. She was killed in the first few weeks of the war so I try and come to a service and light a candle for her when I'm here."
"That's a lovely sentiment, Lukas. Its also nice that non-Bajoran's can find something to believe in with our faith." Kira said as she slowly continued walking.
Lukas fell into step with her by her side. "Its not my cup of tea but I don't have any problem in people believing in something."
"So, how are you doing? Heard you've had a rough time again." Nerys asked.
The Captain sighed, "Yes, you could say that. Seem's the galaxy is picking on me over the past several years. I'm still here though. A little disappointed in Britannic being moved over to Starfleet medical's control full time. Seem's like exploration for me has been put on hold."
"Yes, Commander Nog has to double check the refit orders when they came to us. Seem's like hospital ship is where the Britannic is staying." The Colonel said.
"Well, she is over 30 years old. Newer and better ships are coming along. The Nebula class days are numbered as being a front line ship.
"I hear the Federation President is taking a tour of the region in the near future, starting here." Fredricks said as they continued to walk.
Kira sighed, "Yes. The President wants to see the progress thats being made with the Cardassian's first hand. I personally have told them that its not the right time but they can be very insistent."
"Politics." Lukas said with an eye roll. "I try to stay far away as possible but as next year is an election year then they're going to start ramping up support for re-election. I'm guessing you'll be stepping up security in the near future?"
"Already have for civilian and allied vessels. Starfleet vessel's will start getting the same treatment from next week. My desk has a large pile of complaints from various different civilian Captain's and embassies across the Federation due to the longer and extreme security procedures we've put in place." Kira replied. "Hence why I'm down here having a walk. Need to clear my head a bit."
Lukas smiled, "I really don't envy your job."
"I'll gladly swap with you, commanding a hospital ship around Cardassian space doesn't sound all that bad." Kira laughed.
"I respectfully decline your offer. Thank you though."
Before Kira could reply their conversation was interrupted. "Ops to Colonel Kira, we have a situation up here, an Andorian freighter isn't letting security inspect their cargo."
"No rest for the wicked." Lukas smiled.
The Colonel rolled her eyes as she tapped her comm badge. "Kira here, I'm on my way." She said before tapping her badge again to close the channel. "Well, looks like duty calls. It's been lovely chatting with you again, Lukas. If you have time, it'll be nice to grab a drink with you before you leave."
The Captain smiled, "I think its more if you have the time. Take care, Colonel."
