Meeting the new new CMO

Posted on Sun Jul 9th, 2023 @ 6:33pm by Captain Lukas Fredricks & Commander Peeq Elyro MD

907 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Mission 1: To Catch a Thief
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: MD1 - 1100 Hours

With Britannic in open space and heading to the Chin'toka system at high warp, Lukas dismissed himself from the bridge to finish up the last pieces of paperwork he hadn't managed to get through before Britannic's hasty departure.

He was just walking back to his desk with a steaming cup of refreshly replicated coffee when his ready room door chime went off. "Come in, please." He said as he moved around his desk to take a seat.

From the other side of the door Commander Peeq Elryo stepped into the Ready Room for the first time since arriving aboard the Britannic. Quickly studying the Captain's Office, he straightened his uniform as he came into the room and walked to the edge of the desk. With his central arm he reached out to the Captain, "Commander Peeq Elyro reporting as ordered."

Fredricks couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. "Forgive me, Commander, but I don't know who you are or why you're here?" Confused as to why he hadn't received any communication about the officer stood in front of him.

"My apologies, Captain," the Edosian Doctor quickly answered. "I was unaware that you were not in the loop of my assignment. I am Commander Peeq Elyro of Starfleet Medical. I received orders that I was to immediately report aboard this vessel as your new Chief Medical Officer. I find it atypical that Starfleet had failed to inform you of this assignment."

Alarm bells rang in the Captain's mind, 'Oban' He thought to himself. "My apologies, Commander." He said as he stood up and took the Edosian's central arm. "It's a pleasure to meet you, I'm Captain Fredricks."

The Edosian nodded. Rather than switch gears to another line of discussion, the new Medical Officer kept up the old line of discussion, "I appreciate you accepting me aboard your vessel, Captain. I have long been interested in being a Director of a Medical Center and to serve as the Chief Medical Officer on a Nebula Class hospital vessel is an honor for me. I have served on several of the Britannic's sister ships, but none were intended to serve in this role. They were mainly exploration craft."

"Well, with the recent galactic state, it seems right to have a mobile hospital heading to the Cardassian sector. Although, it wouldn't be our primary role, we can offer assistance if and when needed." Fredricks paused for a moment, thinking quickly to get out of the sticky situation he was now in. "The medical pod does already has a director of medicine. Doctor Knight has just assumed the role. However, I'm sure the both of you can liase in Medical emergencies."

"Interesting," the Chief Medical Officer answered with some surprise by the Captain's announcement. "I was unaware that I was not serving in the full capacity as director of all medical services aboard the Britannic." He realized he may have sounded a bit sourer about the subject matter than he meant to, "No matter. I am pleased to call the Britannic my new home, Captain, and will serve aboard her proudly."

"My apologies, Doctor, there seems to have been some crossed wires with you coming aboard. Nonetheless, I'm happy to have you here, knowing we have more than one experienced medical professional on board will be a delight, I'm sure." Lukas replied, instantly regretting his choice of words but it was too late.

Peeq interjected, "I am certain that the other doctor and I won't step on each other's toes as Humans are so prone to saying. I would be curious to know how my position relates to that of the Medical Pod's Director."

"Doctor Knight will be in charge of all things in the pod. You will be in charge of things ship related." Lukas explained.

"I understand, Captain," the Commander answered from across from the Captain. "As I am very familiar with the medical capabilities of the Nebula Class I am eager to get started aboard this vessel. If I may ask, how many medical personnel are assigned to me in relation to the ship's mission? Do I share personnel with the Mission Hospital, or do I have my own team? What happens should Doctor Knight and I disagree?"

"You both have your own medical teams. There may be some give or take in emergency situations where either one of you may have to send some personnel to assist the other." Lukas explained. "As for any disagreements, I wouldn't really expect any as you're both professionals but if it gets to that point then come and see me."

Doctor Elyro nodded, "I understand, Captain. Is there anything that I can assist you with at this time?"

"I don't think so, Doctor." Fredricks replied. "It's been a pleasure to meet you and look forward to working with you."

"I look forward to working with you as well, Captain. When working on the Bridge I will utilize the Environmental Control Console, if you don't mind," the Edosian commented before continuing, "and if there is nothing further I'd like to visit my station."

"By all means, Doctor. You are dismissed." Fredricks replied with an approving nod.

Bringing his three hands together before him, the Chief Medical Officer replicated the nod of the Captain in generosity toward him. "Thank you, Captain. All the best."

Frsdricks watched as the new CMO left his ready room and wondered what was up Admiral Obans sleeve this time.
